CORONAVIRUS – Update 20/3/2020

Dear Parent/Carer,
I am writing to you following the announcement by Scottish Government that all schools will close on Friday, 20th March in response to the escalating Covid-19 outbreak.
Emergency provision will be in place to protect the following national interests and groups:
S4 to S6 pupils
Schools will remain open to S4 to S6 pupils to allow them to complete coursework and assessments for national qualifications.  All pupils in this group should report to school as normal on Monday.  Given the decision has now been taken to cancel this year’s SQA exams, it is vital that all senior pupils attend.  In the absence of the exam diet, it will be critical that coursework is completed to allow for teachers’ professional judgements of estimated grades to be made and submitted to SQA.
S1 to S3 pupils
Children of key workers (for example, NHS,social care, police, staff providing learning/childcare for other key workers) will have access to learning and childcare to allow their parents/carers to continue to participate to the national response to Covid-19.  This will be delivered on a hub basis with the campus being the location that Dalkeith High School pupils who fall into this category should attend.  Please contact the school to check if your role is covered by the criteria set out in the guidance given by government. Any eligible pupils should attend school as normal on Monday.
Complex needs
The Enhanced Complex Needs Base will remain open.  Families will be contacted directly by staff to discuss individual arrangements.
Vulnerable young people
School will continue to maintain protections and support for children who may be particularly vulnerable in the current circumstances.  Pupil Support Leaders will contact families regarding this available support.
School transport will be available to pupils in the above groups as normal.  Pupils are advised to bring packed lunches into school as it is not possible to say at this time what catering will be available.
Free school meals will be available for those pupils who are entitled to them with arrangements being made by Midlothian Council to distribute these accordingly.  Further information will follow in due course.
S1 to S3 pupils who will not be attending school should access learning through Show My Homework.
I have attached some information from SQA and other partner agencies for your consideration.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and understanding through this most challenging of times.  It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to the majority of our pupils in S1 to S3 for an indefinite period of time.  However, I am positive that this time will pass and I look forward to leading a full and bustling school when we open our doors to all once more.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school for clarification on any of the above information.
With very best wishes,
Allyson Dobson
