Update from the Headteacher – Friday 5 June 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am aware that you will be keen to hear of plans for the reopening of the school as they begin to develop.  I thought it would helpful for me to share the following with you at this stage:

Staff will be coming into school to organise classes for the start of the new term during the week commencing Monday, 15th June.  Classes will be arranged to allow for 2m social distancing.  We will operate a ‘clear desk’ policy that will allow for the cleaning of all surfaces between blocks of learning and at the end of the day which will require some materials to be removed and stored safely.  Thorough risk assessments will take place next week prior to staff returning to the building.

Headteachers across all secondary schools in Midlothian are in the process of finalising plans for Week 1 and Week 2 of the new term to allow for consistency across the school estate.  These plans will include time in school for the reorientation of pupils in all year groups and for the expectation for the blended learning approach that we will be delivering to be set.  Plans will be shared with you as soon as they have been finalised.

Through our established networks, the Senior Leadership Team has been collaborating with schools across the country to share ideas of the best approaches to blended learning.

I hope that this information will help to reassure you that we are fully engaging with the guidance recently released by Scottish Government to reopen the school safely and in accordance with public health advice.

Now that there has been a slight easing of lockdown restrictions, some parents/carers have expressed their concerns that young people may not always be following social distancing advice.  I am sure all in the community would be grateful if families could remind their young people of the need to maintain social distancing of 2m at all times.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I do hope that you enjoy the weekend.

Best wishes,
