Update from the Headteacher – 20 November 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am sure that you were as pleased as I was to hear the news of the move to Tier 2 for Midlothian Council.  This is due to a collective effort having been made by all in the local authority, with the safety measures in schools contributing greatly to this.  This now means that pupils in the senior phase (S4-6) no longer will be required to wear face coverings when in classes.  Pupils can, of course, continue to wear face coverings and I would encourage them to do so to ensure that levels of transmission of the virus remain at manageable levels.

It is still a requirement for all pupils to wear face coverings when in corridors, school buses and in certain classes where it is more difficult for physical distancing to take place.

I hope that you will take the time to read the weekly newsletter to find out what has been happening in school and as a very brief summary of other news that may be of interest to you.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Allyson Dobson

Help for Families this Festive Season

Lots of families will be facing changing and challenging circumstances as we approach Christmas this year. We are able to make referrals to Storehouse for the Christmas food bank. Any families who feel they would benefit from this extra support in this difficult year should contact their child’s PSL. This can be done through the school office at Dalkeith_hs@midlothian.gov.uk. In order that we are able to make referrals ahead of the deadlines set, we must receive requests by 12 noon on Wednesday 18th November.

Please find below the formal assessment timetable that will run from Friday 27th November to Friday 18th December.

Mrs Kelly will be in contact in due course for any pupil who receives additional assessment arrangements. These will still be timetabled to take place on the same day however with adjustments to take into account the additional assessment arrangement.

PE Update – November 2020

PE Update – November 2020

Following guidance from Education Scotland, PE lessons can now take place both indoors and outside. The majority of lessons will remain outdoors in order to maximise the safety of students and staff and maintain higher activity levels.  Indoor PE lessons will be prioritised to senior classes preparing for national assessments, however where possible BGE lessons will be moved inside. PE staff will be following activity specific risk assessments in order to ensure the safety of all students and non-contact sports will be focussed on.  This situation may change following the updated tier system in place for local authorities.  As a reminder, students should come prepared for outdoor lessons with the following kit:

Waterproof jacket

Fleece/ warm jumper

Appropriate footwear

As always with any extreme weather conditions, PE classes will be facilitated indoors.
