Funded Training Opportunities for Parents / Carers

Funded Training Opportunities for Parents / Carers

On top of supporting the learning of our young people, we would also like to promote opportunities that are available for our parents and carers. The Skills Network are currently offering a suite of funded distance learning courses that give you the opportunity to achieve a range of nationally recognised qualifications.

If you are interested in applying for any of these courses or wish to find out more, please follow the link below.

Medic Insight Edinburgh

Medic Insight Edinburgh is a completely free-of-charge programme that we (The University of Edinburgh) offers students in years S4 and S5, or equivalent. We are a group of medical students at the University of Edinburgh and we want to give as many school students the opportunity to gain medical work experience as possible. We run a programme which aims to provide these students with an initial insight into medicine and help students, through our events, decide whether or not medicine is a programme of study they may wish to embark upon.

As you will see from our poster below, we offer two events, one aimed at each year group.

S4 Day Event
Medic Insight Day – Saturday 21st March 2020 @ Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
Applications for this will open on the 10th of January.
The event will consist of talks from medical students and doctors followed by an afternoon of interactive workshops all designed to provide an initial insight into what a career in medicine could look like.

S5 Week Event
Medic Insight Week 1 – Monday 15th June – Friday 19th June 2020
Medic Insight Week 2 – Monday 22nd June – Friday 26th June 2020.
Both weeks @ various sites around Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Applications for this will open on the 17th February and will close on 23rd February. Week applications will be subject to a competitive application process and places will be allocated following marking and will not be issued on a first come first serve basis.

All updates regarding applications will be posted on our website and Facebook page – this is also where the links for applying will become available on the advertised dates.
