Personal Development Award

SCQF Level 3

At Dalkeith High School pupils in S3 pupils can study for a Personal Development Award at Level SCQF 3.

The course contains 3 units which you must complete to pass the course. The units are:

  • Self and Community
  • Self and Work
  • Practical Abilities

There is no external assessment for this course but instead you will create a candidate folio of your work which you must look after carefully. In this folio you will keep important parts of your work. At appropriate points your teacher will assess you and these will be kept in your folio of evidence.

Evidence may include some of the following: written work, photographs, making an item, assessment reviews, team work, voluntary work etc.

During the course pupils get the opportunity to plan, organise and carry out a group project, vocational project and to carry out practical activities that target skills such as: communication skills, employability skills, listening skills and team working skills.

Previous PDA activities that pupils have taken part in include:

  • Coffee Mornings i.e. Scottish themed coffee morning, SfL staff breakfast morning
  • Dyslexia Awareness Week
  • Lavender Initiative
  • Volunteering at Vogrie Country Park
  • Walking football match for senior citizens
  • Volunteering at Dalkeith Country Park
  • DHS garden
  • Personalised graffiti board

What skills do I need for this course?

You will need very good attendance as the course will involve volunteering. Team work is also an important element of the course as you will work in groups for some of the activities.

At Dalkeith High School pupils in the senior phase can study for a Personal Development Award at Level SCQF 3/4.

The course contains 4 units which you must complete to pass the course. The units are:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self and Community
  • Self and Work
  • Practical Abilities

There is no external assessment for this course but instead you will create a candidate folio of your work which you must look after carefully. In this folio you will keep important parts of your work. At appropriate points your teacher will assess you and these will be kept in your folio of evidence. Throughout the course, pupils will set personalised targets as part of their ongoing progress and these will be monitored and reviewed regularly.

Evidence may include some of the following: written work, photographs, team work, developing leadership skills, making an item, assessment reviews, voluntary work and project work.
