Update from the headteacher – Friday 25 June 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

As this is the final weekly email of the session I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your unstinting support throughout this most challenging of years.

This time last year few would have predicted the twists and turns that our lives would have taken.  So many in our school community have been affected by the pandemic and we must never lose sight of the losses sustained by our families.

However, now as the term comes to an end we have an opportunity to step back and reflect on all that we have achieved as a school community – from running Hub classes during the winter lockdown for those who needed our help most, to switching successfully to online learning, to supporting our senior phase pupils to achieve their very best in national qualifications.  It has been the herculean effort from all that has made it possible and I continue to remain proud of all that our school community has achieved.

It is now time for us to stop for a while and recharge the batteries. I do hope that everyone enjoys a well earned rest over the next few weeks.  I look forward to welcoming all of our pupils back into school on Wednesday, 18th August.

I attach below a couple of letters from Midlothian Council for your attention.

With very best wishes,

COVID home testing kits (lateral flow tests)

Home testing kits (lateral flow tests) are available within school for our S1-S6 pupils. We strongly encourage all young people, as well as all staff, to undertake these tests twice a week to support the safety of the school community.

Young people due to enter S1 at Dalkeith High School are eligible to take home tests in the lead up to starting with us in August. Testing kits are available free of charge to any household and can be ordered via the link below:

https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Taking these tests prior to the start of the school year will help us to ensure the safest start possible.

Once the young people are with us, we can then provide them with further testing kits within school.

Thank you for your support in this.
Ms Gail Preston
