Careers in Construction with Mace Group

Are you thinking about a career in construction? If so, we have an amazing insight event for you.

On 9th December from 5:00pm – 6:00pm Mace Group will be hosting an insight session into one of the biggest construction firms in the world.

Mace are involved in some of the most impressive building projects around the UK and the world and offer a variety of fantastic apprenticeship and graduate schemes. 

We will be hearing from the Deputy Chairman who will share insights into his background, career journey from growing up in the midlands to where he is now as Deputy Chairman and sharing experiences from his early career to date which has contributed to his success. Mark will finish by giving his advice on what he looks for in top talent.

We will also hear from a panel of current apprentices and graduates from within the company who will discuss what life is like within the firm and what the process of securing a position in the firm was like.

Edinburgh College Open Days – Performing Arts / Hair & Beauty

Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS) are having Open Days on 2nd, 14th and 16th December

2nd December 2021

10:00am – 3:30pm

Target audience

Secondary S1 to S3 (11-14 year old), Secondary S4 to S6 (14-18 year old)

There will be workshops, information on courses (Dance, Acting Theatre Costume, Technical Theatre, Make Up Artistry and Musical Theatre) and a chance to see the state-of-the-art facilities we have on campus.

On the 2nd of December at 2pm there will be a live performance from our Acting students, and on the 14th and 16th December we will have live performances in Dance.

Make -Up your mind for the career you want in Hair and Beauty

Event date: 30th November

Location: Granton Campus

Time: 1.30 pm – 3.30pm

Target audience

Educators, Secondary S4 to S6 (14-18 year old)

This event is to allow Guidance Teachers, Careers Advisors, and new applicants to understand and see what can be achieved in college within the department of Hair & Beauty Therapy and at Edinburgh College.

Who you will meet?

You will have the opportunity to meet lecturers, and current students to explain more about any of the courses within Hairdressing and Beauty therapy. All will be on hand to answer questions!

Vodafone Big Virtual Kick Off Careers Event

On Wednesday 1st December from 5:00pm – 6:00pm Vodafone will be hosting their big virtual kick-off event to showcase what the company is about and all of their fantastic degree apprenticeship opportunities!

Vodafone offer degree apprenticeships in a variety of business departments such as: Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Project Management, Human Resources, Data Analyst, IT Consultancy, Cyber Security & Sub-marine Management. Upon completing one of these Level 6 programmes you’ll also come out with a paid-for degree in the relevant field.

Edinburgh Leisure Coaching Academy 2022

Coaching Academy 2022

The project is a fully funded opportunity that provides a combination of sports-based activities and tailored employment support for young people that are interested in becoming a sports coach, with opportunities to; gain national governing body coaching qualifications, volunteer to gain coaching experience and possibility to gain employment as an Edinburgh Leisure sports coach. We are currently looking to recruit motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable 16 – 24 years old who have a passion for sport and who would be able to commit to the project for up to 10 hours per week over an 8-week period.

Coaching Academy provides:

• Sports coaching experience in Football, Athletics, Badminton, and multi-sports
• Sports Leaders, Young Leader Award
• National governing body coaching qualifications (SFA level 1.1/ UKCC Level 1)
• Quality, structured sports coaching sessions and the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity
• The opportunity to volunteer and gain coaching experience
• Active Start Multi Skills training
• Emergency First Aid at work
• Advice and guidance on further education and training opportunities
• Increased confidence and self-esteem

The project will be delivered between January and March 2022 at Various Edinburgh Leisure venues and online, with city-wide travel to be expect over the programme. An induction day detailing the project will take place on Tuesday 14th December, 4pm – 6pm at Meggetland Sports Complex, Meggetland Wynd, Edinburgh.

It is important that every young person who wishes to be considered for the Coaching Academy, fills in the referral form in the link, by Friday 3rd December 2021. All who register their interest will then be invited to attend the Induction Day, where they will get a full project overview, meet the Coaching Academy tutors, and take part in a discussion with the tutors on their suitability to gain a place on the project. The main aim of the project is to upskill young people to help them gain employment, with opportunities for jobs within Edinburgh leisure available at the end of the project.

I am working with colleagues here at the University of Edinburgh’s Law School to run 2 events aimed at S5 and S6 pupils attending state schools in Scotland who are considering studying Law or working in the legal sector. Please see below for further information and links which pupils can use to sign up to events.

Friday 12th November 2021 (14:30 – 16:00): So You Want to be a Lawyer – Academic Focus

How do you know you want to study law if you’ve never studied law? What’s life as a law student really like? How do you manage coursework and other interests? Come along to this session to hear from current students at the University of Edinburgh, and start learning some law. Bring your questions to the session and we’ll aim to answer them all for you. We’re all excited to meet you!

 

Friday 26th November 2021 (14:30 – 16:00): So You Want to be a Lawyer – Professional Focus

You think you want to study law, but what’s it like to work in the law? What do lawyers do? Who do they work for, and why? Sign in to this session to hear from our fabulous panel of lawyers from a variety of areas of practice, and a wide range of backgrounds. They will share with you their journey into law. Skills Development Scotland national webinar for parents and carers on the options and support available for school leavers……info below. I’ll send round the email with marketing info if you are including it in bulletins etc for schools.

As part of Scottish Careers Week, Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has a nationwide online session for parents and carers covering options and support available for school leavers on Wednesday 17 November at 6.30pm.

Parents and carers can find out more about the range of options available for their young person as they prepare to leave school and how parents and carers can support them.

SDS Careers Advisers will be providing expert advice and there will be opportunities for parents and carers to ask questions during the session. Help is also available on SDS’s online home for career information and advice My World of Work.
