Good careers advice is essential for effective career planning. My name is Barbara Moir and I am the Careers Adviser for Dalkeith High School. I work for Skills Development Scotland (SDS). My usual days in School are Monday to Thursday where I can be found in the School Library.
I use the notice board at the back of the School’s library to display information on vacancies, college, university and volunteering. There is also a Careers Section in the School Library which is useful for information on college, university, applying for work and training as well as gap year activities.
You can check out your career ideas and get all sorts of useful advice on job searching on www.myworldofwork.co.uk and you can check out local vacancies using our on line resource at www.edubuzz.org/midandeastvacancies
I can be contacted by email at Barbara.moir@sds.co.uk or by phoning me on 07887 831027. If I am not in school, please call 0131 663 7287 and one of my colleagues can help you.
I am happy to talk to pupils and their parents about career planning using career management skills as well as looking at options beyond school. If you would like to book an appointment for a more in depth careers interview
– pupils should contact their Pupil Support Leader in the first instance.
Skills Development Scotland have a local office which is open throughout the year: SDS Centre Dalkeith, 29 Eskbank Road, Dalkeith, EH22 1HJ.
