On this page are materials that will help S3 students and their parents or carers to make informed S4 coursing requests.

The Option Booklet explains the courses available to pupils entering S4, and outlines level 6 courses so that students can also see where progression exists.  Reading the introduction to the booklet is essential prior to making choices. Also useful will be the pathways leaflets that can be found under Careers and Pathways on this website.

You can also view November’s Curriculum Pathways Evening.  The video provides information about the curriculum at Dalkeith High School and it also explains the different types of courses and opportunities on offer.

The MACO Brochure (Midlothian Aligned Curriculum Offer) includes information on Schools College Partnership courses; work-based learning opportunities such as Foundation Apprenticeships and Digital Campus opportunities. Whilst some of what appears in this brochure does not become available until S5, pupils currently in S3 are encouraged to plan their way through the senior phase ahead of time.

You may also wish to view the Edinburgh College courses available to young people in Midlothian. Note that Midlothian pupils may apply for courses with a start date of August 2026 that take place at Midlothian and Milton Road Campuses. Travel to Granton and Sighthill campuses is not practical and pupils will not be coursed into subjects running at these campuses.
