Our school motto is ‘Labor Vincit’ (‘Hard Work Prevails’), and we believe that we should share this hard work and associated successful learning with our young people and their parents/carers in a variety of ways. Our tracking, monitoring and reporting system is designed to build capacity in our young people, and takes into account our aim to encourage all of our pupils to be:

- Resilient
- Reflective
Tracking, Monitoring and Reporting at Dalkeith High School seeks to do the following:
- Demonstrate the progress of young people throughout the Broad General Education and the Senior Phase
- Reflect on evidence of the latest and best learning across individuals subjects and curricular areas
- Involve young people in their learning by reflecting and target setting during learner conversations
- Ensure that parents/carers understand where their child is in their learner journey and how we can work together to support them wherever they wish to go next
Further to this, our procedures reflect current advice from Education Scotland, including the following key messages:
- “Reporting has two main purposes. Firstly, it provides clear, positive and constructive feedback about children’s and young people’s learning and progress, looking back on what has been achieved against standards and expectations. Secondly, it creates an agenda for discussions between learners and those teaching and supporting them about their next steps in learning”
- “Reporting comprises a range of activities including, for instance, written reports, children presenting their learning to parents, parents’ consultation meetings and on-going oral discussions. Staff should ensure that learners are involved in reporting activities in order to promote learners’ ownership of their learning. These on-going reporting activities are closely linked to learners’ reflection and dialogue about progress.”
